I recently inhierited a KKAHLES-WIEN scope. It is marked on top HELIA 2 S2
and below that
Nr.55781

the front bell is 22mm and it is a steel tube. Optics are clear with a good field of fiew. The crosshairs are a single horizontal line and a post. all adjustments work fine. scope holds it's zero on a 30-06 rifle.
My questions are :
1) where were these made and when?

2)quality?

3)approx value?

thank you for looking and any help you can offer would be great

Yor Kahles scope was made in Austria before 1958 as the scopes made after this date have 26mm tubes or 1 inch. Stoger started to import Kahles Helia scopes in 1958 so I imagine yours is a war bring back or brought over by an immigrant. These scopes sold for $90 in 1958, but yours being a 22mm(S2 stands for steel tube) or 7/8" tube are harder to sell nowadays as rings and mounts are hard to find, they also were offered in an alloy tube in 1958. Don't get me wrong these are top of the line scope for there day and fellows like me look for them to fit to period rifles. I ussually pay from $200 to $400 depending on condition, sorry I have no reference for your Kahles wien to give you but just know you have a quality peice on your 30-06, Dale in T-Bay

Thanks zywina for the information...i am going to keep her...the optics are nice a clear (better than some of the newer ones i have tried. I did not think it was that old but somethings were just made better back then.
