^have you tried it mounted to the forearm wood as opposed to the barrel? I would think that mounting the bipod on the barrel would mess with the harmonics when the rifle is fired? I might try this next time @ the range, rest bbl on forearm rest, shoot, then rest forearm on forearm rest, shoot & compare results.

I have not tried this approach yet. You are likely right about the barrel harmonics.

I got really tight groups (~1 inch) at 25 yards with open sights, and have been able to consistently hit the 60 yard gong. have not done a proper grouping test at longer distances yet (and I dont plan to keep this bipod on the SKS either...)

If you mount anything on the barrel or rest the barrel on anything when you shoot, your accuracy will go out the window! The only application that makes sense for a barrel mounted bipod is a machine gun, because they spray thousands of rounds in the general direction of the enemy. If you want to be accurate at 100 yards, a bipod needs to be mounted to the fore-arm of a rifle.

but on the sks, the forearm also rests on the barrel, and creates a contact point or two regardless.

Would have to make the handguard free float 1st

I figured I would give ya some un-wanted advice.
;)
So you don't want to use the bayonet attachment for a bi-pod cuase you don't preffer it. No problem...
Get an aftermarket stock and instal a qd sling atachment so you can put on a harris bi-pod. What that would be too much money right? Well how about the Leapers bi-pod then with a piece of rail attached to the under side of the stock or the sling swivel then?

Also a side note anything rear ward of the front gas port will not effect the POI ;)

What about tapco T6 with blade bayo cutout??

I have a bipod mounted at the bayonet lug on my SKS & believe it is affecting accuracy. I've been thinking of removing it and shooting off a bag to try improve accuracy but my son like the bipod. I wanted to move it further back and mount under the forearm but the problem is we have a Tapco T6 stock with a blade bayo cutout so how do I mount a swivel stud or a short pic rail?? I would love to rest on the forearm rather than be pushing up on the end of the barrel!
