Info on 257stw

I don't have one, but I would think that the STW round when necked down to .257" must be approaching the point of diminishing returns. Barrel life would be measured in hundreds of rounds and I expect there would be little velocity gain possible over smaller cartridges of the same caliber. A .264 Winchester necked down to .257 might be a better choice for a go fast cartridge.

A friend shot out a couple of them in short order, He concluded that didn't do anything the .257 weatherby and the 7mm STW couldn't. Oddly, that didn't stop him from building a couple of 6.5 STWs. I've given up trying to make sense of the affliction.

Have you thought of the 25gibbs or the 25-06AI, you would get pretty descent velocity, but still retain some barrell life.I have a buddy with the stw, and your dumping a ton of powder into it for very little return, extreme overbore. The 257 bee is your best bet. Proven, and hot.

I believe Corlane was selling 257stw brass with the proper headstamp.... If you can find June 1998 Shooting Times there is 4 or 5 pages on it.(including: optimum barrel length, velocity, barrel life, forming cases, and loading data) Some day I will build one.....
