Hello, A friend gave me around 200 once fired brass that was fired out of a winchester model 70 300 win mag. I have an older ruger m77with not many rounds down the pipe, no mater what I do to the brass I can not make it fit into my ruger i am unable to close the bolt, I have trimed, sized, de burred,I ran it through the press for a full length and also tried the kneck size and I am still unable to make the brass fit. New brass will fit just fine. If anyone has any answers please email me at bigsexy285@gmail.com
Thanks for your help

I had a similar issue with a .243 because the shoulder of the brass had stretched to the point of being too tight in the chamber. The bolt would still close but was tight. I have an older style shell holder with way too much meat on top that was preventing the case from being FULLY resized. A quick trip to the bench grinder fixed this and i was able to get them back into spec. I only took off .020 or .030 thousandths so it didnt take much.
Hope this helps.

I will send this via email as well but when I had a similar problem I found that the solution was to ensure I was "actually" full length sizing the brass, I had inadvertantly not ensured the shell holder was actually contacting the sizing die when the press was in the full stroke. I have seen some presses that flex a bit on the large cartridges and in the sizing operation the shell holder does not contact the bottom of the die which creates a slight bulge in the case wall just above the belt on belted mags which then does not allow the cartridge to chamber.

My feeling is that if you ensure the shell holder is contacting the sizing die on the up stroke the chambering issue will be solved.

Good luck with your endeavours... Bob

The head spacing can be a problem but see if shell holder is touching the resizing die

One of my sledding buddies also has a M77 and a source of free .300 brass.(Browning BAR user) He can't chamber any of it until I run it all through a small base die for him, then he's good from then on with his own dies.
Belted magnum chambers are sometimes cut horendously over-sized because they can get away with it.
