Info on 7mm ultra mag whos got one

I got to many 30cals on the go and am thinking of tadeing the 300win for a 7stw or a 7rum. I am a Rem 700 guy so i thought id try the rum out. Any info on this cal would be grate, Ex: feeding, hand loading, long range performance. Looking for a flat shooter for deer and elk here in BC. Thanks

I have a Rem 700 DM in 7mm STW. I load 140gr bullets to 3300 fps, sight it in 3 inches high at 100 yds and hits 8 inches low at 400 yds. If you shoot a 300 now recoil will not be an issue.

I have owned three 7mm stws, as well as a 7mmRUM. I prefer the 7mmstw, and have a fourth one on order. I use 140gr bullets at around 3500fps for all of my big game hunting from pronghorn to elk to moose.

I have a 7mm Rum as well. I only really use it for prarie hunting because it shoots like a laserbeam with the 160gr. accubonds.

No issues with feeding, reloading ,etc.

I will say though when I first got it, I had trouble trying to find the magic load for it. Now that I have it, it shoots amazing.

I use a 700 in 7mm RUM with a 26 inch barrel. This rifle shoots flat, not much recoil and have never had a problem with feeding it. I use it for moose hunting and have taken moose out to 400 yards with a 175gr Nosler Partition( Havent seen one any further). A good powder to start is H-1000.

I built one of the very first 7mm Ultras in the country back in 1999-2000.(with the help of my good friend Bevin King). Before the cartridge even had been introduced/named. It shoots very well! Very Flat! Without the big recoil.

BUT,They do burn/erode barrels though, so dont shoot fast and dont let the barrel get too hot. It will last longer.

My favorite powder is H870.(yes its discontinued, but I have more than enough of it)
It gets the top velocities at the lowest pressures in my barrel.

I was shooting the 7mmImperial Magnum well before the RUMs existed. The actual dimensions of the Imperial Magnums and RUMS, vary slightly, but capacity and ballistics are nearly identical.
