Recently acquired two .22 rifles. First is a CIL model 212, appears to be in shoot able condition, needs cleaned up, maybe re blued, stock is rough but should refinish nicely. Missing the magazine. Are mags for this out there? Are they worth the time to fix up?

Next is what appears to be a cooey 64, but barrel is marked "HIAWATHA 22 cal auto LR". Stock is broken. Rifle otherwise appears to be ok, other than some rust.

Would a savage 64 stock work on this? I seem to recall something about a conversion to use the more modern magazine instead of the plastic ones?

Any info appreciated. Thanks

Both Semi's (I'm guessin you know that already). CIL 212 was actually made by Savage(7J), and are a cousin of the gill guns (no gills, and different bolt!) I don't know if the magazines are swapable. Did find this: http://cilmodel212.sytes.net/

I adore the 64's.
Your Hiawatha was made by Cooey, and was the house brand of Mcleod's Limited of Winnipeg. A stock from Cooey , Lakefield and Savage will fit. Some will have an inlet on the right side for the later safety(Lakefield), and even newer models (Savage) have 2 screws through stock for take down.

They can easily be swapped over from original plastic magazines to metal. You will need a magazine well. a barrel retaining clip (it holds the front of the magwell on, and retains the barrel-an original one won't fit), and alter/swap bottom metal. (you have a hard time getting at the magazine release if you don't.
