Greetings

I’m always looking for information on the Ledendary Model 700 in 7mm-06 Rem. Calibre. I have one of these rifles and have known about them since I worked in a gun store here in Ontario, Canada in the mid 80's. My serial # is A 66958XX. I understand that there are maybe 120-140 M700's in existence with the "7mm-06 Rem" calibre roll stamp. Mine was built in December 1978 as per the "X Q" date stamp on the barrel. I have yet to question Remington about the build date from the serial #. I paid a small premium over and above what a standard calibre 700 is worth, but after only hearing some exist 20 years ago, I thought I'd better have it in my collection. Have also been in touch with another fellow in the US that also has on built in November '78. Clay Harvey, author of Popular Sporting Rifle Cartridges has seen one, knows of others and I know a fellow here in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada who had one a while back. There is one on GunsAmerica for sale- $2000 US. That’s where I got the 120-140 figure.

Does anybody out there have any hard copy or word-of-mouth information on these rifles.

Thanx for now

Brad

I would try one of the American forums for this question as they get alot more special run stuff than we do.

24HourCampfire would be a good place to start.

is this chambered for the actual 7mm-06?..or the 7mm Express?..the 7mm-06 headspace will be .05" shorter than the 7mm Express. Surely even Remington wouldn't mark one chambered in 280/7mm Express as a 7mm-06?....
I know of one marked 7mm Express that used to reside here in AB, now in southern Ont.

if anyone would do something that bone headed it would be Remington....I've read of a few of the first 6mm's in '62 being stamped 6mm Rem Mag too.....from Remington again...

I am sure your right they were out in 7mm express and 280 never heard of a 7mm-06 from factory.

Very interesting Dan I never knew that.
