Hi, I was looking for some info on getting my hunting rifle magna ported, but I've heard that the accuracy can be very hit and miss. I also heard that gunsmiths will not guarantee the gun will ever shot the same. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Magna-Porting reduces muzzle jump considerably, muzzle brakes reduce recoil more.

Magna-Porting makes it harder to clean your barrel. Gunk creeps back into the barrel from the ports and it you fire your barrel with that residue from the ports it can be damaged and accuracy will suffer. I also believe a Magna-Ported barrel will lose accuracy sooner than a non-ported barrel, both with a lot of shooting and all other things being equal.

Most muzzle brakes are threaded on and can be removed for barrel cleaning.

In centerfire rifles both Magna-Porting and muzzle brakes are loud and hearing protection should be worn at the range and any other time if possible. Some muzzle brakes are considerably louder than others - and more to other people than the shooter.

I don't know if anyone is doing Magna-Porting in Canada anymore.

I had a Browning A-Bolt in 375 H&H Magnaported a few years back. It had the poorest stock design for a 375 I've ever seen. Out of the box, it was the hardest recoiling rifle I've ever fired.

I had the pad changed to a Decelerator and the barrel got a (6 hole) magnaport treatment.

The difference in that rifle was like NIGHT & DAY!! I was very pleased with the results.

I have magnaported shotguns only. I think it is the most effective on shotguns because pressure is much reduced at the muzzel, but with magnaporting the holes are back further where pressure is higher.
