It will work fine - my smith had to shave the plate at the top and bottom to make it fit the bottom part pf the receiver and he then champhered the edges...drilled it and taped it and it was solid as a rock....the only thing to consider is that it does cover the pins in the receiver so if you ever have a problem you will have to unscrew the rail...but not a big deal...mine returned to zero when I slid the mount off for cleaning.

This is the only other picture I have. My smith just cut the rail to fit then drilled and tapped it...according to him it was a fairly simple job. You can see whare the rail sticks out on either side of the scope mount, and the screws that attach it to the receiver. The 58 has a bunch of metal taken out (I believe they call it a lightening cut) in that area, I assume to reduce weight...the edges of these cuts are rounded and that is why the edges of the rail have to be champhered to fit.

I don't think AK mounts fit the VZ58 very well. SVD mounts are a much neater, they look like they were made for the VZ58.

I just tried to post some pics but photobucket is down, will try later.

2X , of the mount without the scope on .... how did the smith screw the mount from the inside or outside?

There is not really enough meat on the reciever to tap it properly. I did mine by taping the rail and screwing with button head allen key screws from the inside of the reciever.
