Hi, I am presently considering the Ricol o/u 20ga with the 16.5 inch barrel. I looked at the review ( video ) and I am wondering if that little beast would be good for deer hunting ?

I know its a short barrel, but in the video they say it good up to 100m with a slug .

What you guys think ?

It will certainly kill a deer if you hit it...but that might be an issue . I have a Ricol and while I've never shot slugs out of it the sights as it come from the factory would not be adequate much beyond 25 meters

The slug is great up to 100 yards...... the gun, not so much........

I've never tried shooting my 20g 16.5 Ricol out to 100 yards, but I have shot slugs with decent accuracy out to 50 yards - the FO sights are great on these short shotguns. I have never had a light primer strike in mine and it has become my go-to grouse gun while hunting. I have put over 300 rounds down it without a hiccup. I even bought one for one of my hunting partners as he was constantly admiring mine and he loves it and has become his grouse gun as well.

My rail was a little off kilter, I had to move the front bead over slightly to compensate.

It puts the 2 slugs from the o/u barrels close together ( about 2" between them horizontally) at 20yds.

I think at 50yds theyd be spaced out a little too far to group well. I'd stick to 30 or 40 yds to guarantee breadbasket hits with a weapon of this sort.

x2 Except I've put a few more rounds through mine. I've never tired slugs to 100, but I'll give it a go. Should be no different than shooting any other OU shotgun with similar sights.
