Have a friend with an old "Sterlingworth" double barrel 12 gauge. It's in fantastic shape and was bought used in 1978 and was never shot! The old owner did use it goose hunting a few times. Has a 30 inch barrel with some minor rust towards the end in one spot. The only info I can find is for pricing and collectible market in the US. Anyone have any info on these in Canada? Any ideas on price? Looking to sell. Thanks for any help you have.

Not sure I'd call that "fantastic" shape. It's had the head of the stock cracked and a crap through bolt repair done. It may just be the pic but the forend edge looks pretty rough. Non standard, aged recoil pad and we haven't even begun to look at the condition of the bores and barrel wall thickness. It may not have been used much since 1978, but there was still 50 years before that for it to be abused. A 12 gauge Fox SW in that kind of condition has zero collectability, would be bought as a shooter only and would likely be in the $450 range.

Canadian market for vintage SxS is typically 20-30% lower than the US market AFTER taking into account exchange, which right now is around a factor of 1.3.

Fair enough. Thanks for all the info. Obviously we don't know what we have! Can you describe the "bolt repair" you mention?

Unless the pic is fooling me, the round thing on the cheek of the gun looks like the typical cover/plug used to hide a bolt that is set across the horns of the stock to hold them together after a serious crack has occurred.

This is the least expensive base model in what would perhaps at best classify as NRA "good" condition, IF it locks up tight and IF the bores don't look like sewer pipes. Collector value is nil. The round disk on the stock could be concealing a through bolt repair to a cracked stock which would seriously degrade the already modest value. It might be just one of those stupid stickon registration numbers but I doubt it because this gun will have a factory serial number. Somebody might pay $450 for it but I wouldn't, there are much nicer double guns around at that price point. IF the bores were reasonably good AND IF it locks up tight it might make a base donor for a nice custom gun.

Ok, thanks again. Very helpful. I will price accordingly. It's time for someone to get some use or enjoyment from it.

I saw the OPs ad on the EE and did a quick look around. Google "Fox Sterlingworth Pin Gun" for a bit more info on what you have. It was of interest to me as I have an early pin gun as well, but was in better condition when purchased.

I paid a lot less than what the OP is asking and had to spend a fair bit getting it back up to speed. Such repairs can be over spendy compared to the value of the shotgun.
