Buddy dropped it off to see if I wanted to buy it.

It's a Winchester model 1894 made in 1909 going by serial #, 26" barrel, full octagon with half magazine, forend has a plain steel cap, butt plate is steel with checkering on it, the stock its self has no checkering and no pistol grip. It is chambered in 32WS. It might be an extra lightweight but would really like to hear from somebody that knows these.

The metal isn't pitted or rusted and the stock isn't cracked or has chunks missing, just regular blueing wear and safe kisses from 100+ years. I can take pics tommorow but just looking for a bit more info and a safe price guidline so I can offer him something for it.

Pictures are a great help regarding condition but sounds like you have a standard 1894, octagon barrel, special order half magazine and shotgun butt. Extra lightweights were not offerred in the 94 with 26 inch barrels unless VERY special order guns and standard ELW's had round 24 inch barrels. The 94 ELW became the model 55 rifle in the 1920's as the 94 rifle was phased out of production. I have seen rapid taper octagon barrels on special order rifles but these are very rare and very noticable as the taper is quite steep. The rifle should be worth around $1000 unless the finish is really worn if it is a standard rifle. The .32 special chambering is the least desirable from a collector standpoint, don't know why but I've tried to sell a couple old .32 rifles and there is less interest. Sounds like a nice rifle. My 2 cents anyway.
