I received a browning .22 pump rifle from old friend and she said she received it from her father I was hoping some of you might have some info regarding the rifle...manufacture info, age, value, etc....

Onthe barrel it says:

"Fabrique National D'Armes De Guerre Herstal Belgique"
"Browning's Patent - Depose"

serial # on the bottom of the receiver "46616"

any info would be great....thanks guys

It sounds like an FN Trombone, which is a Browning patent but not a Browning manufactured gun.

They were made from the early 20's thru the mid 70's. Until the GCA of '68 there were no serial numbers stamped, so your rifle was made between '68 and the mid 70's.

Look up some pictures to see if this appears to be your rifle, if it's not then the above is data may be wrong.

Thanks for that comment Guntech! I learned to shoot with one of those trombones. It was never very accurate with Long Rifles but shot well with Longs. It was stamped .22L but I never thought that it was only meant for the Long cartridge, not the Long Rifle. It has since had the barrel sleeved and so has a new LR chamber, but it is nice to learn that bit of info!
