Greetings fellow enthusiasts, I am in the process of installing a AR FSB onto a 14.5" lt wt barrel that has not been drilled for pins. I have thought of marking and drilling or perhaps marking and filing the groove for the retaining pins. Or maybe, threading the gas port drill hole at the underside of the FSB and putting a small flat on the barrel at 6'oclock and a small set screw to hold the FSB in place. Another fix might be to thread the FSB retaining pin holes and use 4 set screws to gently but firmly hold the FSB in place. Most smithing issues are within my scope so please don't tell me to take it to a real smith as I have been very disappointed with the work I have had done in the past. I don't think I will ream the holes for taper pins although that is still an option. Surely someone else here has done this before as it is not rocket science. If you have any pearls of wisdom, lemme know and I would be very grateful.

The set screws are a viable option.

Be it 2 on the bottom or as you say, in the taper pin holes - your choice.

You'll want to use the green loctite as it wicks into tight fit bearing surfaces, and holds like rock.

The screws only really hold the fsb in place while the loctite dries.

HTH, Carl
