I have been looking about for a .22lr and found a post about the SV-99 and wanted to know if it can be purchased anywhere. I really like the look of it, can anyone recomend where to look or something similar to that?

Me four.
On one of the other threads someone said the Russians don't sell "military" weapons to civilians. Kind of strange since they seem to sell to everyone else.

It would be a nice rifle to have. I'd get one.

i have emailed ISHMASH about this subject, uh, sort of. i am interested in a biathlon basic rifle, which has a similar action to the SV-99, just not such a "fancy" rifle. i'm still waiting for a reply.

to the best of my knowledge, there is no canadian distributor for any IZHMASH product.

Forgive my ignorance but my web search for RAA didn't give much info in the US especially not for Canada. And we all know how the Americans are getting about the export of rifles. Just goes to show the fear gopher hunters and biathletes can strike into the hearts of strong men.

Russia does not sell military adopted firearms outside there country to civilians. You can get a similar model but you cannot get that rifle.

So who sells the biathlon rifles? You would have to expect the version threaded to accept the suppressor to be illegal. So who has or deals in the legal stuff?

Someone with money just has to make the right calls. A slight adaption might be needed but where there is money there is a way. When the Soviet Union died, this opened up the doors. Hello capitalism.

The problem is money, volume and talking to the right person.

the major problem here seems to be that IZHMASH requests payment at the time of order, instead of upon delivery, reason being that they do not have the capital $$$ to buy the raw materials and manufacture product to sit on the shelf.

there is apparently not a canadian dealer who is willing to operate in this manner, so hence no IZHMASH products available in canada.

the only option seems to be to import IZHMASH product from the states if you can get through all the red tape and BS.

We tried, and continue to try, to deal with Izhmash. They keep sending us to RAAC. I refuse to pay the US excise tax, etc when I could order from Russia direct much more easily.

Maybe a flury of emails from Canada requesting a distributor here?

Get someone who speaks fluent Russian and your problems will be lessened. Too bad you can't get a former Spetsnaz member to make your inquiries for you, they seem to get the situation more fluid.:D
