Hey,
I was talking to a guy about guns today, and he said Ingersoll Rand (the air compressor company) was contracted to make 1911's for the military. Is this true?? If so where could I find one?
Thanks

I've found no link between Ingersoll and Remington.

The Remington Rand that made 1911 pistols for the U.S. in WWII was a typewriter manufacturer, which was started in 1873 by the original Remington gun-making company as a diversification, but sold by them in 1886, thereafter taking the name Remington Rand.

The Rand in Ingersoll Rand is the Rand Drill Company that merged with Ingersoll-Sargeant. Histories of Ingersoll Sargeant, Dresser-Rand (which has some relationsip to Ingersoll-Rand) and Rand Drill Company show no connection to Remington or Remington Rand.

Remington Rand 1911A1

NAA should be along shortly but I'm pretty sure it was Remington Rand.

You rang? :p

Yup, the "Rand" making 1911A1 pistols for WWII production was Remington Rand, the business machine company, as previously stated....

NAA.

Ingersoll Rand has a pretty unassuming appearance if they make handguns.....almost no security, accessible from the highway, in Ingersoll no less.
