We're still sifting through the results of the recent Poulins and James Julia Auctions for the Bruce Stern collection, but came across these two pieces, which I thought would be of interest to Canadian Inglis collectors.... :)

How about those prices ...

Nothing ever goes down in value ... :D

This is the one that made me choke... & to think I had considered bidding on it.

MAUSER 98K SHORT RAIL SNIPER RIFLE WITH SLING AND BAYONET. SN 7674. Cal. 8mm. Fine example of a German 98K short rail sniper system with a 24" bbl. Manufactures proof CE/43. Short rail scope system. All matching. German sniper rifles were among the finest in the world and considered vastly superior to any sniping system the United States had with the possible exception of the USMC 03A1. All numbers and inspection stamps are as they should be on this wonderful and exotic rifle. PROVENANCE: Stern Collection. CONDITION: Rifle remains in fantastic condition with the receiver showing better than 95% of its orig finish, the bbl assembly shows approximately 90% finish with the muzzle and turning plum. Front bbl band shows only traces of orig finish but is correctly numbered to the gun. Middle bbl band shows better than 95% orig blue. Trigger guard assembly shows better than 95% orig blue with the floorplate showing approximately 70% and also turning plum. Bolt has approximately 50% orig finish with the primary wear being on the body from use. Numbered stock and hand guard are in excellent condition with only a few minor bruises on the buttstock and one small chip just below the reinforcing lug. Scope "BJM Code" retains nearly all of its finish with very clear optics. Mechanics are crisp and bore is bright and shiny with only a minimal showing of wear. All in all an outstanding example of a short rail 98K. Even the buttplate shows no abuse. Bayonet and sheath are in excellent condition and matching each other but not the gun. 4-34068 BK93 (5,000-7,500)

Sold for $24,150 U.S.:eek::eek::eek:

I was actually sitting on the phone and started bidding on it. Before I even got my first bid out, it had risen past $10,000....

I have no idea what's so special about it, other than condition, which appears like it was made yesterday.

If you find some Chinese script HPs for $500, let me know. The second pistol is one of the lightened HPs. Very limited numbers of those. The price on that is not too far out of line.
They still make money....I get some more every couple weeks. But something like a lightened HP, they never did make many of. To an advanced collector, any price is a bargain.

I suspect it's b/c they are much rarer stateside. Here in Canada, the Chinese script guns aren't anything special. Maybe a slight premium, but I hate shooting the CH guns - that rear sight is awful.

I agree the script Inglis is too high. But as Claven mentions, the CH stuff is a premium in the US, while the Cdn stuff generally is not. Certainly, the serial number range on the CH one does not show it as anything overly special.

I too hate those Chinese contract sights. Every time you shoot, they jump up and reset themselves higher. I think thats an auto adjust feature for when someone is running away from you.

There's also some real big money down there and to a well-off collector, price is no object at all. A "working man" can't compete with a "bid til it's mine" celebrity. My buddy, a corporate law firm partner, blew $8k in 5 hours at a strip bar last week, to him a $21,000 rifle would be nothing at all. If I had that kind of money I would have spent half a mil at that auction myself!

That is stupid money for a script Inglis. Even if it wasn't re-parked, still crazy.

Hopefully it brings up the price of good Inglis HPs here.:p

Personally I hope NOT! I only have one, and I want more before the price goes up.

The lightened one doesn't look quite right. Could just be the wood grips, but I wonder if it might be a mixmaster. On second thought. I take that back. I just looked at a picture in Janes, which unfortunately is B&W, but the frame does look darker and the grips are wood.

The frame on the lightweights were cast from an alloy, and as such, could not be parkerized. Instead the lower frames were anodized.

Chinese script HP

Hi everyone.

I just purchased an Inglis/chinese contract with script (only two characters however) Buttstock and leather cheek piece/belt attachment for $600. Some around.
