Does anyone know of a website where one can trace the serial number of their Inglis-made Browning Hi-Power (No. 2 pistol, Mk I*) in order to find the date of manufacture? If so, please let me know!
All of the Inglis pistols (over 150,000, in total, of the two models) were produced from February 1944 through October 1945.
No website that I am aware of giving specifics ... but Clive Law's Inglis Diamond: The Canadian High Power Pistol does have the John Inglis Co.'s monthly production records in an appendix, so it is possible to at least narrow it down to month and year (except for first and last production, which for some reason are lumped together in 4-month and 3-month blocks, respectively.) Post your serial number, and I can tell you ....
This excellent hardcover book would make a very good addition to your reference library, however - available here, from Clive's Service Publications: http://www.servicepub.com/
