Inglis HP cracked firing pin retaining plate....big deal??

The gun will work, but you really run the risk of loosing the firing pin at some point. Why not just buy a new part?

"...the usual spot..." What spot would that be? There is no firing pin stop. There is a firing pin retaining plate that holds the firing pin in the slide. Is that the part that's cracked? If so, Marstar doesn't list it. Gunparts does. Sit down. $24.95US plus shipping. OUCH!

fire pin retaining plate

The correct name of the part is the firing pin retaining plate and they usually crack at the narrowest point to the open center. I've been replacing them quite often I'd say every 800 to 1k rounds. I've got a small collection a cracked ones now and dont see any safety issues with using a cracked plate....pls correct me if i'm wrong.
I wonder if the mark 111 hipowers have similar problems.

Its a comman thing and is safe to keep using it. Thats what I was told as a wpns tech by my higher ups

If you're getting cracked parts that regularly, something is wrong. Either the ammo is too hot or the investment cast part. I've never seen a cracked plate either. Not even when shooting .41AE out of mine.

I've seen lots of cracked plates over the years. It happens alot, especially with the Inglis guns. I don't think it is a gun problem. However keep in mind that when it fails you will likely loose your firing pin and spring. You may want to see what these will cost to replace.

FWIW: I was speaking to the Chief Wpns Tech at Petawawa, and he, too, said that it was common, and that 1 crack is OK, but it will then crack to the narrowest spot, which is not OK.

With 1 crack, the gun is still serviceable, but it's time to get a replacement.

plate

lol Pete's ammo....thats funny bbb

I'm curious about the .41ae what is that all about?

Thanks for the info from the weapons tech in Pet. much appreciated
I guess one crack is ok then but from what i've seen they only crack at the narrow spot.........so thats ok right?...I will replace it soon anyway.

bye for now

In a nutshell, it's a 40S&W with a rebated 9mm base. It was quite good, but not very popular.

Yes, it's OK, but do replace it before there is a problem.

official purveyor

lol Peter "official purveyor to the Axis of evil".....I'm not that bad really just misunderstood by the rest of the world.

RePete I now understand and see the two cracks meeting in the narrow point of the plate and I'll PM CS45 for a possible replacement.

thanks guys
