Hi all,
Back in 1991, my mom inherited a Hi Standard Double 9 .22 revolver from a distant relative in the US. The gun is near mint and still in the original box with a purchase receipt from 1958. At that time, she had all the appropriate paperwork done to allow her to legally import the gun into Canada. She had no interest in the gun and simply gave it to me, we did not do up any transaction paperwork and I never bothered registering it in my name, just left it in the gun safe for the last 25 years.

Fast forward to today. She has since passed away, and I still have the gun. I am booked for my CRFSC soon, and plan on getting my RPAL to allow me to purchase other handguns. My question is this: What do I have to do to get the revolver transferred to my name so that I can legally transport / use it?

Once you have your RPAL, just transfer it into your name.
At present, it should be considered part of the estate, and under the control of the executor.

I have brought numerous restricteds into the registry. As long as you are sure of it's history, which by the sounds of it you are, it is as simple as a call to 1-800-731-4000

Your first step is to get your Rpal.

It's a long story but there was no estate or executor per se. She spent the last several years of her life in a mental institution somewhere. I had lost touch with her years ago and have no idea what happened to the rest of her assets.

Once you have the RPAL, just call the feds and tell them you have a revolver that your mother gave you years ago, and you just found it in a long forgotten box. They will register it to you over the phone. They are happy to get another gun registered.

You will need to know the make, model, serial # and the barrel length in mms.

Don't tell them you inherited it, because they will want death certificate, copy of the will, etc.

This is the best way to go, should be fine.

Always nice to 'inherit' a firearm.
