Inherited this 308, still new to firearms, can anyone recognize it.

I suggest getting a cheek riser (TOO many people need one and don't know it) or changing the rings to something lower then shooting it. That rifle is a beauty. Strongest hammer pull in all my collection is a winchester model 1894 that's 117 years old. "They don't make me like they used to sometimes rings very true.

But yeah. Your cheek weld will be off with such a high scope. Either bring your cheek up with a riser or bring the scope down with me rings.

Yep, a nice older Model 99. And the "eye" watching you, the little circle on the upper left of the receiver, is the counter of cartridges in the magazine, that older Savage's had.

They have a following not the best action design as far as lever guns trigger issues safety issues headspace issues and a weak locking system made a carrier out of repairing then . But they are popular

The barrel bulge under rear dovetail is a dead give away that it is a 99f. Slimmer barrel and the f designates "featherweight", which they are far from lol.

Mines got the bulge under the rear dovetail, and it's a 99DL. Jeweled bolt, gold trigger, aluminum rotary mag with round counter, factory drilled and tapped, tang safety (mines a '68)... weighs in at just over 9 pounds with optic. My favourite hunter for sure.
