Its a 1952 Remington 760 Springfield Gamemaster 30-06. He loved this gun and shot a pile of big game with it. I tore it down today and gave it a good scrubbing and gave it a light coating of G96 before putting it to bed. It sure functions nice, just need to make time to go to the range! I don`t hunt big game, but its sure nice to have.

Very nice- congratulations! By coincidence I inherited a 1968 Remington model 742 in .30-06 from my father. Did yours come with about a pound of blaze orange fuzz in the trigger assembly too? ;)
Do right by the old man and take it hunting next fall, its never too late to start. :)

My very first firearm was a 742 in 30-06 it dates late '77 to early '78 based on the serial numbers. That's what I thought you had there at first until I looked closer. Is that a pump action?

I inherited a 760 from my grandfather, also in 30-06. I've shot one whitetail with it 20 years ago, since then it rest in the safe only to be cleaned once a year or so.
Might be time to take it out hunting once again.

If your dad handed it off to you... congrats!

If it was bequeathed... I am sorry for your loss.

Nice gun, treasure it.

One of my deer hunting buddies (who is like a third grandfather to me) has a very similar, if not identical gun.
I couldn't believe how smooth the action was when I pumped it, they really made those things well.

Yes it is a pump and very very smooth. The serial number is in the very early 30,000`s.

I remember my Uncle telling me that a group of guys dropped my Dad off at the end of a bushline and a few others pushed the bush. They all of a sudden heard 4 shots fired. They get out of the bush to find 3 does and a buck laying there. I had to ask my Dad and he chuckled and re-confirmed my Uncle`s story. My Dad is very much alive at 79 yrs old. He has not hunted big game in the last 34 years.

Nice gun! My dad has the mate to it purchased in 1955 but his is a .35 Remington equipped with a Lyman peep sight. Killed a lot of deer with it and it will be mine some day, I suppose. Not in any hurry for it, rather have my dad around than own his rifle.

Awesome rifle! I ended up scoring a 7600 in .270 once. Great unit. Earned its nick name tho...we called it "The Mule"! :)

I have the twin to your 06. Love it. If I dig around here long enough I might even have a spare fore grip for yours.

Nice rifle. I Inherited a '66 Wingmaster. I'm in the middle of completely restoring it. I will post pics when it's done!

I have the same rifle, also passed down from dad who only comes along to binocular hunt these days, and to pick me up after a long walk.
She has buckhorn sights and shoots impeccably considering it is a carbine length rifle. between the 2 of us, it has taken many animals that all tasted delicious, as well as a few bear.
I still use it to this day when moose or elk are being sought. It will one day be given to my son.
