I was reading yesterday where you can put an insert in a single shot 12 gauge and shoot a 45-70 light load or factory load out of it .. Some type of liner that can take the pressure and make it safe ,, Not sure how long this insert or liner is suppose too be :???.. But my thoughts were that a single 12 would not handle the pressure or SAAMI of 28000 when a 12 gauge is only 12000 ,, I think I would just go the 45-70 Harrington and Richardson route .. But I do believe there is shotguns that come with a shot gun and rifle barrel that work off the same action so maybe it is not as dangerous as I might think .. Or maybe the liner is the whole lenght of the barrel and rifled also ..

You can get 45/70 inserts. They're made strong enough to take the chamber pressure so the pressure isn't on the shotgun barrels. The good ones are full length however most are 12"-18" and rifled
The ones that are only 2-3" long are more or less novelty items
I had an 18" 45/70 liner in one barrel of my sxs 12 ga the barrel I loaded with 00 buck. It worked well enough. I sold it after I bought a sxs 45/70
