Inserts for 30mm to make it 1" okay?

Hello,

Instead of dropping another $100 on another mount, how does adding these inserts fair? So far, I only found one place selling just inserts, but it's pricey.

I currently have a RRA 30mm high rise mount for my Norc M4.

Wondering if I should just drop another $100+ on RRA 1" mount or just add some cheap NcStar rings to an extra riser I have now. It won't look as cool with the riser and regular rings and wondering if I'm better off just adding inserts to my RRA mount or go with riser and 1" rings.

Thanks...

I've used inserts before - home made though ... had a friend with a lathe make me a couple out of some hard nylon bushings. The nylon made them "non-marking" and worked very well for me.

No idea what a Norc M4 is, but I was using them on an old 303 at the time and didn't have any problems with the scope "walking out" on me.

Thanks for the help all!

Norcinco M4 = AR15 but with 2" shorter barrel (at least that is what I believe).

Okay, I don't know what is a reasonable price. I see $30 for these inserts. $30 is not a lot in the whole scheme of things but it makes me mad since it's just two pairs of two 1/2 moon flattened out sheets of metal.. lol When I add shipping and taxes... It'll be approaching $50...

Looks like I won't be able to find inserts for $10. haha... I'll just settle for $20 pair of cheapo NcStar rings if need be. Or just plunk down another $100+ for RRA 1" mount unless I can find one for cheap on EE. I will eventually swap scopes on my Norc M4 in the future to Bushnell 3-9x40 scope that I just bought. Currently have the Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x40 mounted on it.

I will celebrate with an accurate bolt rifle right once the LGR gets killed. :)

Try making inserts from scrap nylon or other plastic. Don't spend $50 on inserts,
better spend $100 on a new set of rings...

Jocelyn.

Thanks for the info (thank goodness for subscribing, otherwise I wouldn't have known you replied).

I ordered a cheap 1" high rise mount from China for $11. Let's see if it arrives in a month and fits properly. A far cry from paying $89 + shipping and taxes for USA made RRA mount. Granted the RRA looks flawless. I bought a cheap riser for $20 (made in China) and it cannot compare to the RRA in terms of looks and even toughness by feel. But it clamps onto my AR just has hard. Haven't tested it yet. But Looking forward to test this 1" mount for my other scope.

Yup, I have come to the inclusion that I will pay not pay that much for inserts. No way! If it was $10, maybe but it must not be made in China.

Try Brownells

Brownells has inserts for 30mm rings. Well made and work well. I have some for my B&L , Leup, and Weaver 1" 36X scopes on my F-class rifles. Not expensive either. Some people have luck with Brownells shipping to Canada, others not so much.
