Got my rings today (Thank you ### International)

Is there any special trick to installing them on my rifle?

Do I just fit the inserts into the bottom ring, lay in the scope, lay top ring on and screw on firmly but not too tight?

How do I make sure the crosshairs are straight up and down?

Previously I have set the rifle on the dining room table and sighted on the edge of the living room picture window, but that is imprecise.

MD, Your basic idea is correct.

I put the bottom rings on the base and install the cross bolt nice and tight. I use a T handle screw driver and make sure it is tight.

Then put on the insert (clean any and all oil from the inserts and rings), your scope, insert, top half of ring. Snug up the screws and align the crosshairs.

There are a number of ways so use whatever gets it so that you have the proper eye relief and the crosshairs are perpendicular when held in your comfortable ready position. Just note that the scope may be a bit canted as we don't all hold the rifle perfectly up and down because of our body shape.

Whatever your natural offhand position, the scope reticle should be perpendicular. Double check with the rifle rested to ensure that is 'true' for you as well.

Tighten down the screws well. The hardware that comes with these rings is stronger then the torx wrench so you can go really firm on tightening them. I go firm until the wrench starts to bend, wait a minute then try again. If the screw is still loose, it will move a bit. If not, the wrench will bend.

The only times these rings slip is if there is grease/oil on the parts and if you don't tighten enough. I find the wrenches included to be pretty soft and I use real tool torx bits that go on a ratchet wrench.

I tend to go a bit overboard and have stripped a few wrenches and torx bits but never any of the screws. They are some of the best hardware I have ever seen on rings.

Enjoy...

With the rifle on a rest of some sort I just back up to near the but of the stock and eyeball the vertical cross hair so that it bisects the chamber. You can't see much cross hair from back there but trail and error it to your best guestimate........
