Just trying to find out if there is an easy way to install your standard 2 shot extension. I have seen some videos but they show guys drilling holes in the mag tube. I would prefer not to do that if I can help it. Any info would be appreciated.

The one that came with mine did not require any drilling or any modification of any sort.... just unscrewed the end cap, and screwed in the extension, then tightened the clamp that holds the extension to the barrel.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

If it's a genuine 870P or an older 870 you shouldn't need to drill holes. It depends on the type of magazine spring retainer. If it's the plastic retainer with "teeth" and a slot in the top then it's held in the magazine tube by two dimples in the tube. These are what would need to be drilled out.

The 870P won't have the dimples and the magazine spring retainer should be a round metal piece that's press fitted in the tube. Pry out the retainer, install the longer spring, replace the barrel, screw on the magazine extension and you are good to go.

Ok Figured it out. It had a thin steel cap at the end of the spring and I read the manual (go figure lol) and pryed the cap out and spring came out. Replace the spring with the one supplied with the extension and put the entension and threaded it on and bingo.

K got a picture of it disappointed the extension isn't as black as the rest of the gun but oh well.

Still looks good... and if it's not as black as the rest of the gun, then respray it with some matte-black paint? To be honest, people probably won't notice too much, especially if they get a view from the end of the barrel.

I wonder if I should send it to the armacoat guys and see if they can match the colour.

I don't know the costs, but unless you're doing the whole gun, it might not be worth it. You might even have to send the whole thing in anyway, if you want them to actually match it. I'd just do it with a spray can, but that's because I'm a DIY kinda guy... if you're worried about heat and wear, try some sort of header or brake caliper paint, if you can find it in matte black.

The mismatch may be due to the gun being manganese phosphate and the tube being zinc phosphate. reparking the tub in mag phosphate would match it.

I most often see people to a socket driven into the tube to remove the dimples.

Thats what I did on one of mine. The other option is simply to file them down on the inside, or drill them out.

All options work, but the socket one works best and leaves the least amount of marking on the tube.
