Ok, I don't know much about barrels. I found an new M38 Swedish 'in the white' barrel' (I don't know what that means:confused: ). I would like to get one of these barrels to install into my M38. Is there great costs associated to having this done by a gunsmith? What does 'in the white' mean? Thanks guys.

I could use one of those. Where'd you get it?

I have one of those rare Swede M38s that is inaccurate too.

Thanks for defining 'in the white' for me. Now, 2ndly, is it going to cost alot to get a gunsmith to install the barrel - it's already threaded.

Should be fairly inexpensive, remove the old barrel and install and headspace the new one, will be more if you want the smith to finish the barrel.

Installing the barrel is the first step and not particularly complicated. Remove the original, install the new one, make sure the gap between the barrel face and bolt is correct, and adjust headspace. Wouldn't even be an hour's work. The sights will have to be installed on the new barrel, and then it will have to be blued. This could take more time than breeching the barrel. You may find that the cost of the barrel, plus the 'smithing may exceed the value of a Swede with a not so hot original barrel, and when you are finished, the rifle should be a fine shooter, but may be worth less than a fine original rifle.
