Hmm. Well I bought a detachable magazine to install on my remington 700 SPS tactical. As it already has a hinged floorplate, I thought it would be a matter of dropping in the replacement.

Well apparently not so easy. The magazine area is just a little too big to fit in the hogue stock. I tried to tap it in with a hammer, but no go--just won't fit.

So I'm probably going to have to remove material from the inside of the stock, but that looks like a bit of a tough job. Probably best done with proper tools, I'm a bit nervous going at it with a dremel.

Any pointers?

If I'm going to have to send the stock in to get this done professionally, I guess I would rather wait until I've bought a better stock than the one that comes with the rifle, but that's not a purchase I had planned to make for awhile.

What detachable magazine system did you buy?
Personally, I wouldn't use a Dremel to open out the inletting for a detachable magazine unit. Large flat areas, small round cutter. But you are correct, it is entirely possible that the inletting will have to be altered.

I have the bottom metal. Apparently the stock would need some work, oh well. I guess I will move up my plan to buy a stock, as i don't want to do any work on the hogue.

i personally wouldnt be to worried about bucking away at a 50 dollar tupperware stock to make that fit for now. I do find it a bit humorous that your putting that high end bottom metal in that peice of #### stock. Just take your time, shouldnt be a big deal.
