Installing new sights on my SIG 226 problem

Im replacing the factory sights on my 226 with some truglo fiber optic sights. I was able to remove the old sights with a brass punch without much problem, and I have a SIG sight pusher on its way to install the new sights with.

I cant seem to be able to get the the new sights started in the dovetail! They seem just slightly large at the bottom of the dovetail and just seem to want to ride up over the top of the slide when I try to get it started, I put a mirometer on them and they are about 2 thou wider than the factory sights. I can push the old sights back into the dovtail about an 1/8" easily with my thumb. I called the store I bought them from to confirm that I got the right set and all the #s are correct.

So...Im just wondering if its OK to run them across a file and try to remove a tiny bit of material so that I can get them started into the dovetail ???

Oh yes, I have also tried to start them with a bit of lubrication and no luck.

Suggestions !

Perhaps put your sights in the fridge overnight and warm your slide in the oven, might give you enough differance to get started.

Don't file them. Use lube and try and get them started. The reason it is bigger is so it will fit tight in the dovetail and not move around. If you file it down, no matter how little you think you did it one day it will come loose and you'll be SOL.

A .002" interference fit won't go unless you use a hydraulic press however it could be that the old sights were just a little more bevelled on the bottom corner than the new one. I installed adjustable sight on my CZ75, and had to use an oilstone to make it fit. If the old sight pushed out hard, don't try to push the new one in unless it starts in almost as far as the old one. Try both ends of the dovetail to see it the old sight starts further from one side, and work fron that end.

Don't use a file. It'll take too much of fin one pass. Use a stone on both sides of the sight. Needing a bit of fitting isn't unusual.

Are you trying to install them from the left side?

Quote from the Armorers Manual...
"Install and remove SIG sights from the left side of the slide, due to a chafered edge machined on the right corners of the sight bases to aid in the ease of sight installation."
If you remove to the right you will ruin the sight channel and your sights won't fit properly or line up, which will make your slide s**tty and accuracy non-existent.

Hey scotty...I must have a different manual than you cuz mine doesnt mention anything about the sights at all other than which way to move them to sight them in. I also have the armoures vidieo and it doesnt have anying on the sights either.

However I did remove them from the left side but I cant get them started from either side:(
