Im replacing the factory sights on my 226 with some truglo fiber optic sights. I was able to remove the old sights with a brass punch without much problem, and I have a SIG sight pusher on its way to install the new sights with.
I cant seem to be able to get the the new sights started in the dovetail! They seem just slightly large at the bottom of the dovetail and just seem to want to ride up over the top of the slide when I try to get it started, I put a mirometer on them and they are about 2 thou wider than the factory sights. I can push the old sights back into the dovtail about an 1/8" easily with my thumb. I called the store I bought them from to confirm that I got the right set and all the #s are correct.
So...Im just wondering if its OK to run them across a file and try to remove a tiny bit of material so that I can get them started into the dovetail ???
Oh yes, I have also tried to start them with a bit of lubrication and no luck.
Suggestions !
