Anyone ever done this before? I looked up a youtube video on how to dissassemble the trigger group and it really doesn't look too difficult, but I'm worried about screwing it up somehow, and frankly there are some tools that I simply don't have that I would need. Should I find a gunsmith to do it or would I be better off doing it on my own? In some ways I'd like to do it myself just to learn, but at the end of the day I'm more worried about ruining a part that cost me $25 plus shipping to get.

First off. If it's a Russian with the original early friction safety, you need to replace the lever with a newer type.

Ask me how I know.

Ive disassembled and reassembled the trigger group for the SKS and it's not very difficult. All you need is a hammer, vise, some punches, and a bit of patience. Pretty hard to screw it up unless you bang away on it and bend something out of shape. If you're not confident enough that you will put it back together properly then definitely get a gunsmith to do it. We don't want another SKS turning full auto.........

PM me if you need help. Good luck.

Well I guess I'm going to have to get that too ffs. I'm really not a fan of that friction safety. When I first bought the thing I was going to use it as a deer rifle as well as a range plinker but I don't feel safe walking around the woods with a loaded chamber in that rifle with the safety it currently has.

For anyone who does not already know:

1) if the firing pin rattles in the bolt when you shake it, there are no actions required.

2) #### the bolt on the unloaded gun and set the trigger safety to on. It should not dry fire when trigger is pulled. Turn safety to off, gun should dry fire when trigger is pulled. No action required.

3) Hold trigger in "pulled" position and #### bolt. when release the trigger should make "click". When pulled again, it should dry fire. No action required.

Having that said, these rifles are solid as a rock and take little more than the most basic cleaning to keep them functional and safe.

Where can these new levers be had?

I was quite surprised when I took apart my laminate tula I bought from marstar to find that it already had a spring loaded firing pin installed in it. Looks just like those Murrays firing pins you can buy.

What are you going on about? The SAFETY LEVER SPRING not firing pin spring.
