Installing scope mount on M14s

I have mounted a couple of these and the aluminum seems to be a little beefier than the groves in the receiver but don't fear, I have made them fit every time.
Tighten the side bolt in till snug, tap the mount firmly (not over the head wacking it) with a small rubber mallet, continue to alternate snugging and tapping. The final torque on that bolt should not exceed 65 inch/pounds. I use an expensive tool to check alignment, a piece of 3/4" pine quarter round to see how it aligns to the front site. When the alignment doesn't move any more and the bolt is at 65 in pounds even after you "adjust" it then move on to tightening up the dove tail at the back.

I realize that but the mounting procedure is the same, your mount has the oversized knobs and the separate dovetail base, worry about the dovetail after the main forward bolt is tightened, then drift the dovetail over until it just touches the mount but does not deflect it. Use some kind of alignment device to see if there is deflection. Tighten the dovetail adapter into the dovetail. Then tighten the rear oversized knob, in doing this you shouldn't notice the alignment device move side to side at all.

I have the same mount as you mrsmitty, and the procedure described by Holleyman is the only way I could get it to line up right. Forward bolt first, tighten and adjust, tighten and adjust, repeat until it's snug and aligned. Then tighten up the clip guide bolt, checking alignment every turn or so, until readjusting when needed. PITA, but I finally had it both tight and aligned properly. Except I wasn't smart enough to think of using a stick, so I mounted a laser for alignment checking :D
