Just trying to figure out the best way to install sling studs on this gun. It is not drilled for studs at all. I am thinking that the wood on the forend will not be enough to install a regular screw type stud. The rear shouldn't be an issue, but I am leaning towards a band style stud that clamps on the mag tube. I see Cabelas in the states sells them and I can order them from the US but doesn any one have any other ideas. Or does anyone know where to get these in Canada.

Hi there,

I recently picked up a used Winchester with a clamp on front sling lok. Since I don't use a sling on my levers, I had immediately removed it, and was just about to throw it out. If you are interested; just fire me an e-mail and I'll drop it int he Post to you later this week.

On the other hand, I have a pair of Marlin 1895's and found the fore end to be quite huge compared to my Winchester's. I am confident that mine would be able to accommodate a sling stud. I guess the new rifles must have a smaller fore end than mine?...

Hope that helps,

Marlin makes forearm caps and rear barrel bands that include a stud for quick detach swivels. You can buy a replacement from the States (through Numrich or direct from Marlin) or you could try contacting Western Gunparts or Reliable to see if they carry one.

Of the available options, I find the replacement cap/band the most aesthetically pleasing. The magazine tube clamp works well if you like the sling closer to the muzzle... and the clamps are pretty easy to locate at any store that carries Uncle Mike's components.
