Hi all: I just got an USGI fiberglass stock (from our very own .45ACPKing). Finish is great and everything fit perfectly; he even included a replacement upper buttplate screw to prelace the differently threaded Norc one.

I have a Versapod that I'd like to install on it. It's one of the ones that mounts onto a quick detach swivel stud. My question is, is it safe to use a wood screw threaded QD stud, or should I get one of the machine screw threaded/nut ones?

I rather suspect that the machine screw stud is the way to go, but since I have some of the wood screw threaded ones on hand anyhow, I figured I'd consult the CGN MBR Brain Trust just in case.

My experience with screws into fiberglass is that they don't hold very well. They quickly loosen. Your experience may vary. Personally, I'd use a machine screw qd swivel and either a large washer or a metal plate to spread out the force. Ideal would be to move the existing swivel back one screw, drilling an new hole closest to the rear, and install the qd swivel into the old hole. A metal plate backing it up and epoxied in place would be the most durable solution IMO.

My 2 Cents

If you use the wood screw I think you would have to reinforce the fiberglass as it is to thin - maybe epoxy putty ? Or join the british army and get a portable rest -
