Has anyone use/bought a book or video/DVD to assist them in their game (trap, skeet...etc) and has it helped ??
I was thinking about buying a book on trap shooting.

Yes to both books and video (for skeet).

I started reading a few books, one by D. Lee Braun, and another by Barney Hartman. Both had some good tips that I was able to add to my game.

I bought a video tape that Todd Bender put out on shooting regular skeet, and I was able to pull a lot from it.

You can read all day about shooting targets, but when you can actually see it being done, it makes a big difference. There are several angles shown, including an 'eye cam' that shows you what you'd see as a shooter. Bender is an excellent instructor, and was able to effectively give a lesson via video tape. He teaches strong basics which I tried to implement into my game.

For skeet I'd highly recommend Bender, I'm sure there must be an equivalent high level instructor for Trap and Sporting as well.

14 tips to better shotgunning, strategy and how to play the game - both DVD's from Gil and Vicki Ash on how to improve your sporting clays game.
These are good learning materials

Lots of good ones here for sporting clays.

I have watched two that are listed here:

ANDY DUFFY'S Approach to Winning Big in Sporting Clays

Mastering the Double Gun

I liked the Duffy video mostly because I have taken instruction from him and it's a good refresher. Mastering the Double Gun was also good because and not only because I've met Chris Batha and shot the course where much of the video was taken.

Good advice from all ... the books and videos do help - but nothing improves your shooting like lots of shells and a good, attentive coach.

Got a real kick years ago shooting a couple of rounds with Barney Hartman ( and he shot some 14 rounds of Skeet that day while instructing ... never dropped a single target !!! - a real "machine" ) Barney was very quick to point out after asking if I'd read his book - that the had changed most of his foot positions and a few of his hold points since he wrote it !

I've found stock fit to be critical, and patterning a big help to understand where the gun shoots compared to where I'm looking and what the various chokes do from 5 yards right out to 50. Shoot lots of practice ... and practice with a purpose.
