I just have a quick question regarding the instructor list on http://www.fsesoi.org/

If their name is on that last, are they 100% legit and qualified to teach and carry out the exam. Like, they are recognized by the CFO and CFC and there is no way someone could end up on that list who isn't legit. Is that correct? I just want to be sure before I start calling people for my PAL.

Sorry for the newbie question. This isn't something I wanna half ass or get scammed on. Thanks in advance for any replies and apologies if there is a section with this info in it, I honestly couldn't find anything.

I actually haven't heard of that list before. I glanced through but I didn't see my instructor listed so I can't offer any help.
Chances are the list isn't 100% foolproof as it really only shows a name, a phone number, and an email account. Any one of those could easily be compromised, so don't be sending off any money or anything without getting confirmation.
Also, it doesn't seem cutting edge. The 514 area code section was Last Updated ( Wednesday, 01 September 2010 10:49 ) . That's a kinda big gap from then until now in today's world of expiring licenses and changing regulations. Not sure if the instructor certificate expires or not, so that's really just a guess.

However, if you do call someone, ask them if they are currently authorized by the CFO as a recognized instructor. If they say yes you're good, if they lie about it you can haul their ass to court. Actually, the RCMP might come after them in that case as well.
Getting a guy who was authorized as a firearms instructor 23 years ago, but not currently, is all fine and good until you go to send in the paperwork and you waste a few months waiting until the CFC tells you to do the test again and wait even longer.

Don't be discouraged though, even if you do find someone who isn't a certificated instructor they might have valuable experience and advice.

The Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario (FSESO) is the professional body for instructors in Ontario. They work closely with Ontario's CFO to deliver the CFSC/CRFSC in this province. If someone's name is on that list, they are currently certified by the CFO as an instructor. There are certified instructors whose names do not appear on the list because they do not typically offer services to the general public. If you have doubts about the credentials of someone who is not on the list, contact FSESO.

There have been several instructors in the Ottawa area who were suspended/decertified in the last six months and they were all quickly deleted from the 613 list. I don't know why there is a 514 list as that is a Quebec area code.
