Inter provincial hunting certificate legality....

In QC, the Hunter's certificate is essentially a proof of competency. Upon receiving the certificate which is valid forever, one still needs to purchase a permit specific to the game he is after.

Could I hunt in ON or AB with my QC hunting certificate? (Provided I purchased a hunting permit in ON or AB!)

Yeah. Each of the provinces has some form of requirement of proof of completing a Hunters Education course, and accepts other provincial certificates, or that you have previously held a Hunting Licence in another province as adequate.

As to proof of Competency, nope. It's not that. Like the power boat operators card, it's pretty much a card that tells all and sundry that you parted with a few bucks, may have stayed awake through it, and should know what to do or not to do, or at least, that you had access to the information.

Look into places like the Scandinavian and European countries, where they actually have to shoot live fire at a moving target at the range, in front of witnesses, in order to pass. THAT is a competency test!

I'm actually glad we don't.

I look at the complete and utter cluster ##### that is the individual methodologies and interpretations that the different ranges around the country have implemented WRT their own versions of what is 'required' to be either a member, or in order to get sorted out as a Restricted shooter there, and it is so non-standardized that I would rather see NO test at all than to leave it in the random hands of someone that does not think that those 'other' shooters should be allowed in 'their' woods.

Too much representation of Fudd, in club managements, and the capability to screw too many over, is my concern. A Fudd with too much time on his or her hands, seems well able to make misery out of being a gun owner, already.
