Interchangable Chokes

I just got my Ithica M 37 rebarreled with a tube that has replaceable choke inserts. The inserts have notches in the end of them that look like they could fit some sort of wrench. There were no instructions with the new tube.

Is a shooter supposed to acquire the appropriate wrench for this? How firmly are the choke inserts to be installed?

Yeah, you should get the appropriate choke wrench, although I use a weird "toy" knife for my Browning invector-plus chokes - it has these weird ridges on it and I tried it and it fits perfectly!

How firm to install chokes? Just "hand snug like a spark plug" is the rule. Don't crank 'em in!

Be sure to put some choke tube lube (marketed as such by a few companies) on them to prevent seizing, a situation you want to avoid at all costs.

Monty is right - no more than just snug will keep you outof trouble.

I am wondering why they did not send you off with a wrench that would fit the tubes. Go back and ask if you should have got some. For the time being just try maybe a quarter, loonie or something like that, and just like said before not too tight.
