Interested in buying an after market barrel for 1911 .45. Is it worth it?

I am slowly adding to my base model GI and was looking around at 1911 45 barrels, they seem reasonable priced but is it worth it? Does the barrel need to be longer before I see any difference when I shoot? What barrrels require the least amount of smithing to fit on my Para? Ideas? Suggestions?

I damaged a 1911 barrel, so had to replace it. The best barrel is one that needs fitting by a gunsmith, so it is tight. A true 'drop in" would be loose and probably worse than your existing barrel.

Are you such a good shot that you need a match barrel? My Para shoots quite well, as is.

My suggestion would be to keep your existing barrel but get a good barrel bushing. EGW makes very good ones
that require some fitting to get a nice snug lockup. In my experience, this can be as good as a match barrel
but a lot less expensive.
