I picked this little rolling block up at a gun show a couple weeks ago. I am looking for a little more info on it. From what I can tell it is not the original stock and it was fitted to the gun. Its not a bad job at all and makes the gun alot nicer to shoot. It has a octagonal barrel with really nice rifling and nice engraving all the way from chamber to muzzle. I did a google search and couldnt find much. If anyone has any info on it please let me know also what would be a good price for it? Not looking to sell it just wondering if it is worth what I paid.

Looks similar to a Remington Model 4 Scout that I have. Mine has a cylindrical barrel but older year models had octaganol barrels as well.

Fun to shoot however if it is like my model 4, be careful with hot loaded 22Lr rounds as they tended to spray a bit around the breech when fired. I tended to stick with .22 short or CB rounds in mine.

It was my first rimfire rifle and my dad sent me off to play with it when I was 10-12 years old. lots of fun but with falling/rolling block actions eye protection is even more important than usual.

Sir - your Pieper's Patent .22 cal rifle is a rolling block, not a falling block. The Browning model 78 and the Ruger No 1 are falling block, as is the Sharps. The Martini/Peabody is a tipping block, BTW. Your gun is a very nice example, but in fairness to its age should only be used with CB caps or .22 Shorts.

I echo the eye protection advice - these little guns spit badly.

Thanks Tac,
Shows how much I know about this old gun, lol. This is the first of this kind of gun I have owned so I am not sure what it was called or what type of ammo it shot. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet as I bought it 2 weeks ago at the ancaster gunshow. I previous owner said he fired it with 22 LR and he had no problems with it. I will get some .22 shorts next time im out in about and find a place to shoot it. Im going to change the title to rolling block now.
Thanks again for the info guys.

H. Pieper was a Belgian Gunsmithing company that made several types of firearms from the "parlour" rifles designed to shoot the .22 BB Cap cartridge to large calibre "Cape" guns for dangerous game. They also made shotguns.

Since this rifle is stamped "H. Pieper Patent" it is probable that this one was not made by Pieper themselves, but by another firm that was licenced to produce this type of firearm to Pieper's design and paying a royalty payment to Pieper for each firearm produced.

Many of these inexpensive firearms were produced for the "name brand" and other hardware companies under various names and models, similar to Sears, Eatons, Fields, Marshall-Wells and other mail order companies.
