Interesting book on early police handguns

Didnt the CPS have a commemorative revolver made, a S&W 13, I think? - dan
Model 10. From City and CPS centennial in 1985. Along with a Wilkenson sword done for the same.
They were all marked "One of 300".
It was the duty gun of the day.
Actual work guns had the single action removed.

I am reading it and I will keep on reading it, from A to Z. Interesting. Thank you very much.

I now have read it all, from A to Z. I did not miss a single word.

The best of its 246 pages lies in Chapter VI, page 166-167, in a letter dated March 14, 1966, written by a policeman (J.C. O'Connor, San Diego County Sheriff) to another policeman (David Patrick Geary, Chief of Police, City of San Buenaventura) - first paragraph: " ..., I can only say that we did lots of research on police handguns, and managed to come up with a paradox: the .38 Special revolver does not do a proper job, but the average police pistol shooter is unable to be effectively accurate with a gun that will do a proper job." And the letter is undersigned by a man named Elden R. Carl, Jr. , Range Master. Those who would be happy to dismiss that dude, Elden R. Carl Jr. , should do a bit of research and polish their knowledge before making a big mistake. A really big mistake.

Yes, by the way, who is Elden R. Carl, Jr. ?

And who are those other dim wits from the so called Southwest Combat Pistol League ? Who is Ray Chapman ? Who is Thell Reed ? Who is Jeff Cooper ? Who is Jack Weaver ? Anybody knows ?

I never realized they were all marked 'one of 300'
why would they not run consecutive numbers?

I dont know. Probably something with S&W Id assume. It has been done, but I know they dont like sending sequential lots of guns to one dealer.
Same with the engraving of the one of 300. I know the guy who got these commemoratives done up, and I'll ask him more of the story and report back here.
