Interesting CWD Developments

dry maybe but wow, thanx for posting that. I'm glad I took the time to listen to the whole thing.
crazy stuff with massive implications for humans and animals.

The proof is in repeatable science. Currently this guy has yet to convince a whole lot of reputable scientists.
File under interesting, but unproven.

Yes, if they were actually close to finding a cure for CWD, there would be lots of financial support for this. As you stated, no one has been able to repeat his findings, so I also view this with a whole lot of scepticism.

I would agree but why just have 1 lab working on this? Share the results and get this does sooner. Unless it is JUST about financial gain.

True, but it is still early in the game.
Give it a little time (and yeah, I know, that's a commodity we are running out of in this instance) and we will know if he has something here or not...

While I am hopeful, I also know there are a literal host of others working on the CWD problem.
For the sake of our ungulates and more, I indeed with them ALL The Very Best!

Cheers,
Nog

If this is truly the beginning of a cure for CWD that would be great.

I know they said that the cause of CWD is from a bacteria called Spyroplasma. Did they say how an animal becomes infected by the bacteria Spyroplasma? Please if someone could answer this to save me from re-watching the video, thank you.

I am not sure about the spiroplasma bacteria but there was a recent breakthru that was suggesting that illnesses like parkinsons and alzheimers and others .... may possibly begin in the gut.
So if that is actually the case, I would assume that sometime in the patient or animal's life it has consumed something with the bacteria in it or on it and that's how it is transported into the gut.

crazy stuff.

I can't see a cure for prion based diseases. Prions are near indestructible. They can withstand formaldehyde, 600+ degrees F, bleach and other cleaning agents don't touch them.
Any prion based disease is fatal. The contagious nature is frightening.

That's great news! Many hunters in Alberta were waiting for their results, and unfortunately many came back positive. Alberta and Saskatchewan definitely need a cure for their big game animals.

General consensus is it's a prion based disease. Difference between a normal prion and an abnormal one is direction of twist. Still a lot of mystery here and a lot of money to be made in finding a cure. I take it with a grain of salt.:)

What evidence is there that it's caused by bacteria and not misfolded proteins? Wasn't much elaboration on that. I hope it is true because it would be way easier to treat then, but I don't think it is unfortunately.

I would rather they direct the resources towards the Creutzfeld-Jakob family of diseases. Those are the ones that affect humans.

personally I buy into this -- not sure if they will find a cheap simple treatment for the bacteria but I think they are on the correct track. It took a while to get the medical profession to treat Lyme disease as a bacterial issue (a spirochete not unlike syphilis -- and incidentally with similar symptoms!! -- and they still resist diagnosis and treatment) The PROBLEM is keeping this away from BIG PHARMA who will milk this for every penny they can!
