I was at the range yesterday testing loads for my rifle (700LTR .308)

I was shooting off about 50 rounds over the morning and coincidentally on the last round I intended to shoot, my bipod popped off.

The bloody nut that screws into the stock (which the bipod piece attaches to) snapped at the beginning of the threading, leaving it stuck inside my stock. I bought a replacement piece and will get started on trying to get it out. I will likely have to tap and thread it and yank it out like that. I am not exactly sure why it happened as .308 doesn't have the greatest recoil, but I think the bolt was weak in the first place. I can't remember exactly but I think the bolt was slightly bent (very slightly) in the first place.

I am using a versapod 5-9 with tilt.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

On a lighter note, the rifle is shooting great and have found that it really likes 147gr at 100yds and I am in the process of tracking down the rifle's favorite soft point hunting round (probably either 150 or 165gr.)

Drill it and use an easy out, you sould be able to get one at most auto supply places!

I have the same rifle, but with a Harris, never seen that happen, not on any of my rifles, that is a very isolated incident.

I'm a tad confused. I thought the Versa Pod was a rip-off of the expensive Parker Hale bipod (which resembles a Bren Gun's for that matter). There is a tubular fitting with a latch that engages a short rod. One type of mount has this rod parallel to the barrel sticking out the tip of the foreend. The other has the rod on a big chunky rubber handstop that fits an Anschutz-type foreend rail with a T-nut. I suppose you could just screw this central fastener into the stock. So did the piece on the stock break, or on the bipod?

Did you have it attached so the legs hinge forward or rearward?

Legs hinged forward.

I got it fixed now. I got the piece out and put a new one in that had no bend in it. I also affixed a small washer between the stock and the bottom of the headpiece. That should be good enough.

I am just going to keep the bolts as tightly fastened to the rifle as much as possible as well as the big screw piece that attaches the swivel connector to the stock.
