Interesting European site

notice that they are all chambered for cartridges like; 8-348W, 30-284, 8x60. is this because they are not allowed to own military calibers?

look at the mosin-nagant in 300 winchester magnum!

Looked great for what I saw but they are using some weird program that makes my 'puter freeze up.

What country is this from anyway?

- Country is France, you need a special permit to own firearms in Military calibers and amount of rifles is limited also. Less trouble to own them for average people to have them rebored to civilian calibers. Ex. 30-06 to .270, .308 to 243, 8x57 to 8x60 mm etc............

- Not a bad concept in a way I would not mind having a prohibited CA/FA in 30-06 converted to .270, if we could claim its not a military weapon and now non-restricted since it is chambered in a hunting caliber! I know, I know day-dreaming again!

750 Euros for a Lee-Enfield? Kind of pricey.
The Vickers was a good price at 1450 Euro though. Am I correct in guessing that
"NEUTRALISE" means deactivated?

"NEUTRALISE" means deactivated: Yes exactly it, they look pretty outside but inside they get torched to bits!

30-284 is supposedly a .284win necked up to .30 caliber. The difference between the 30-.284 and the 7.5x55 is so slight that go-no go guages could almost be pratically interchanged for both calibers. The .284 case would be slightly thicker near the base and have a slightly different shoulder.
The .284 case, necked to 30 caliber, only has to be full lenth resized in a 7.5x55 die and voila! Rebated rim 7.5x55 Swiss cases.

You would figure after getting overrun twice in the last century, the French would be encouraging their citizens to have guns chambered in military calibers. Ohh well better in oddball calibers than not at all.

Actually, the law was passed to try and pick up all the stuff the German and Allies left all over the countryside in 45. Motto back then was a machine gun in every barn, instead of a tractor in every barn.

polish Radom Wz98A-700 euros -uhh,but i still want one (at least to touch and shoot it)

the 8-348 is the 8 mm Lebel with the base expanded by .007 probably for ease of getting ammunition. Base diameter on the Lebel is .540 and the 348 is .547

cheers mooncoon
