Doesnt' the type 53 have an M44 style folding bayonet (since its an M44 clone) ?

yep,the type 53 I have does have a folding bayonet=M44...Hard to tell from the pic if it's an M38 M44 or T53...R..

I think I see a bayo blob near where the front sight is but I could be wrong.

I believe it is a Russian M-44, the blob (I feel it is the muzzle ring of the bayonet) is hiding the front sight, if it was an M-38 the front sight would be in clear view. The Korean war seems a bit early for the type 53 to be issued, combat ended in July 1953 and since production only started in May little time for them to reach the war zone.

Good point on the dates. I thought type 53 production started in 51, my bad. Brainfade.
