My friend has a nice LE that he would like to get a grip on value. Since I never had one that wasn't rough shape and a 150 dollar rifle,Id like to ask you guys if you would look at these pictures and tell us exactly what it is and approximate value.

Id like to thank you in advance for any and all help on this.

It is not a Lee Enfield. It is a Pattern '14 Enfield. Made by Remington at its Eddystone PA factory under contract for the British. Sported. If he as the bolt, perhaps $150.

It is a Pattern '14 Enfield

Thanks tirlag,I was told that by the owner but forgot. Actually,I didn't know that a "pattern 14" was not a lee Enfield. He does have the bolt,so 150 is all its worth?

The Lee part of Enfield comes from the staggered round box magazine designed by James Paris Lee. The Pattern 14 was designed by Enfield and was patterned after the Mauser with some obvious differences. The staggered magazine on this rifle is a direct Mauser knock off.

Thanks guys, very interesting. I think the owner will be less than pleased with the value, but I find this stuff fascinating. So all pattern 14's were built by Remington?

Nope. Others built them too IIRC.
But they are 'Beaucoupe' rifle also, very well thought of. I had one in my stable for a breaf spell, but there was a spilt in the chamber. Very unusual flaw, the original seller returned my funds though.
If you are looking for a good rifle, it will probably fill the ticket

This rifle, along with its (slightly younger) sister, the Model of 1917 in 30-06, are some of the finest and cheapest 100 year old shooters, if the bore and crown are nice.

Funny thread this is. As I sit here I am in my tree stand with my Winchester M1917 in my lap waiting for another whitetail to walk by. They are nice guns and can shoot quite well if the shooter does their part. Clean it up and have fun shooting it.

I agree about the $150 value.

If you handle one of these rifles and then handle a No1MkIII or No4MkI Lee Enfield...there is no comparison IMHO. The Lee Enfields are such slick, nice actions in comparison.
Yes, the Pattern 14's and 1917's work and are very strong etc...but I've found them less of a pleasure to use. YMMV.
