On Saturday, July 12 the Listowel Agricultural Society is going to put on an nice military display to commemorate the 100th anniversary of their building, the former Listowel Armouries building. As I understand it there are supposed to be some milsurp vehicles, a WWI biplane, some fly overs, possibly a small reenactment, and a fair amount of small arms and goodies on display inside the building. I will be bringing 6 tables of milsurp rifles, handguns and mixed bits and pieces. The display is from 1pm to 8pm with a barbeque supper. If you are interested in going, Listowel is a small town in Ontario about 45 minutes north of Waterloo. If you can make it be sure to say hi!

I called the CFO this morning to get the ATT in order to bring some of my goodies to the show. I knew they would get a little bent because this isn't a "gun show" that they have on their magical list, but they actually asked me to send a copy of an invitation asking me to display.

I must say, it's good to know that the CFO is making sure people like me aren't calling to get an ATT and then using it to rob the bank or hold up the local Mac's milk. I'm sure that is done all the time by people with phony ATTs!

Anyhow, I am looking forward to the display. Hopefully some of you can make it out. I will have some Rosses, some Lee Enfields, some Webleys, some .22 trainers, and other fun goodies. I expect to hear lots of stories about how Rosses all blew up and how the C No 7 is a rebarrelled No 4.

Wish I could make this event. Unfortunately I have another family commitment that day. Live in Eastern Ontario now. Grew up on the family farm just north of Monkton. Attended High School in Listowel. Army Cadet membership was mandatory (males only!!) at that time. School had racks of Cooey 82's and a small bore range under the gym. If I remember correctly Vice-Principal held rank of LT Col in Cadet Instructor's List. There may have actually been a couple Bren's on the unit's equipment scale of issue.

I served for 15 yrs as a CIC officer with local Cadet unit retiring last year. Our scale of issue was down to Daisey Air rifles only after loosing our No 7's about 5 years ago .Despite these changes Marksmanship is still very much alive in the Canadian Cadet Movement. Some changes in the program have been very much for the better. The wool battledress is long gone and been replaced with smart looking dress uniforms.

Good luck with the display. Would have loved to make it

I'll try to get some photos up next week if I get the chance to take any. The Guelph regiment is supposed to be doing some maneuvers in the middle of the track area. It should be an interesting event.

The day was crazy! There were tons oof great displays in the hall (beside the old junk I brought), including a Triumph military motorcycle! Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to go around and get photos my self because there were so many people. One of the organizers has agreed to send me some of the photos she took, so when I get them I'll post them up. In my corner I think the M1A1 Thompson had the most attention. Everyone was amazed at how heavy those are.

Hey, I'm from Listowel! I didn't make it out to the display because of other obligations but thanks for bringing your collection to my hometown to share with everyone, I'm sure it was really cool. A relative of mine sits on the Ag Society as well.

There was a number of great exhibits there and it's too bad you missed it. I love getting the chance to take my old junk out for show and tell, and I don't live very far away so it wasn't a big deal. The only problem is lugging everything from the basement up to the van, from the van into the hall, from the hall back to the van, then back down into the basement. I know a couple of times during setup I was thinking that maybe I should have taken up stamp collecting instead of heavy military surplus firearms.
