Well, I found a couple of good looking milsurps this month and thought I'd snap some pics for y'all. First is what appears to be a Yugo M48 sniper rifle? Is it too much to hope for? This gun was bought from a fellow who owned it for a long time. It isn't one that was recently imported. It has the ZRAK turret mounts and a Carl Zeiss 4x Jena scope. It's a sweetheart of a gun with a very nice bore. I can't wait to get this 'ol gal out to the range! I'm not sure that the scope is original, but the mounts look un-monkeyed with. Any info anyone can offer on this rifle is welcomed!! The other one is a rifle I have been looking for , for quite some time. A really, really mint Carcano carbine with folding bayonet. This little rascal looks like it was never fired with an absolutely MINT bore. Still covered with cosmoline in the action and chamber. I have found a few with the bayonets sawed off but only have ever seen 3 intact ones and this one was by far the best Carcano I have ever owned. Just when a guy thinks he'll never find another great Milsurp, WHAM! Another one pops up! That's what keeps this collecting game fun!

Nice rifles but the scope mount and scope is not original. I would guess that this optic is from the 1970 or 1980, not sure, former Eastern Germany made.

Scianna, I didn't think the scope was original, but I did some research online and they used both, Mauser marked mounts and ZRAK ones. Here's what I found for a comparison pic:

The info I found says that some scoped M-48 rifles were fitted with ZRAK mounts and some with Mauser ones. Apparently the ZRAK ones are still being produced today in Yugoslavia as well. There was apparently quite a variety of scopes used during the last Bosnian event as well. I need to get some more history on this gun. It really doesn't matter to me whether it is original or not, I just love the look of it. Closest thing to a K-98 sniper I'll ever own. GRIN I'll P.M. you the paragraph I found online regarding the mounts.

I have two rifles with the Zrak mount. Under rated and very sweet to have. One in 30-06 and the other in 308 win. Your rifles look cery nice. Good shooting.

GOLDIDIG;
There is no such thing as an M-48 sniper, that said many have been "put together" by or for a few US Importers.... Interesting but NOT government issue....

The closest thing is the M-69 which is a modified M-48, shortened wood, heavy barrel, Zrack optic and mount.

During both recent wars in the Balkans many Mausers were fitted with optics, some at the local level, some at the arsenal level.

The official Yugoslav sniper rifle was (is) the M-76 in 8mm Mauser, damn fine rifle, very accurate indeed.
