Ok, so I have 308 rifles on my mind, and you know what crossed my mind that I couldn't answer- "Are there any non-restricted black rifles in .308, for under $2000?"

Kel Tec RFB? Nope- over $2000.
Norinco M14? Not a Black Rifle.
Armalite AR10? Again- comes in over the price range.
Remington R25? It fits- but it doesn't fit that FINAL detail: non-restricted.
Rob Arms XCR-M? Well, defintely a loc-tite whore, and falls in like the AR10.

Are there anymore out there?
If not- why isn't there? I'd have to think that there is a market, taking into account how well the RFB is supposedly selling.

and remember, the m14 by the definition of a "black rifle" has changed it's spots- the old definition was a wood and steel ; with the black being a plastic and steel- well, by changing the stock, the m14 now falls into the "so called" definition- and the shorties even more so

+1. Heck I even traded my bolt action 308 for a 223. I'm only punching paper.
If all you do is paper punching, then yes minimal calibers are best and saves money.
The .223 gives the .308 a good run for the money even in long range comps.
Hunting is another story.

Cartridges I shoot the most
.22LR, 9mm, .223, 7.62x39

it all depends on your circumstances- i've got only ONE 223, and that is just so i have commonality with nato forces; the rest are 308s or better- 1) you have to have a rifle of at least 24 caliber in alberta for "big" game- that leaves your 223 for varmints
2) it's considered as a "minimal" cartridge for deer
3) i don't like it, period
