Interesting SxS Sidelock by Ontario Gunmaker (Pics)

I was at Nicks place last week and he showed me an interesting gun he had made when he owned Hale & Hunt (Parker Hale fame). He told me that it is made for left eye dominant right hand shooter.

He kindly allowed me to dismantle the gun and take a few pictures when I told him that there are others on this forum who would love to see the pictures of this gun.

You can see that even the lock plates are curved...

Lovely gun. There is an article in one of the early 1970's Gun Digests that features a bentwood sidelock of John Amber's. I think it is a 2" Purdy Badminton model.

I saw a Purdy stocked like that at SCG a number of years ago.

I am one of theose cross eye dominance freaks...I would like to try a gun like that just for fun. What was the action of that gun?

Very cool pics. I've seen cross over stocks before but it's not often you encounter a complete gun built that way. Thanks.

You gotta do what you gotta do, when it comes to getting your dominant eye properly behind the rib.

While I'm sure this configuration would feel completely natural to the left eye dominant right-handed shooter, it looks like it would be akin to trying to control a petrified snake for the rest of us. You know you're dealing with a significant fit challenge when even the receiver has to be cast off!!
